Meerut, 06 September (HS). The District Disaster Management Authority has issued a guideline to protect against lightning. For this, people should take the help of technology. Information about lightning can be obtained by downloading Damini, Sachet and Aapada Prahari app on mobile.

District Magistrate Deepak Meena said that the Relief Commissioner of the state has given instructions to make the advance warning received from the Meteorological Department and Damini App available to the people to reduce the loss of life due to lightning. For this, instructions have been given to ensure wide compliance of the lightning early warning system standard operating procedure and in addition to this, to take action on other important points. According to the District Magistrate, Sachet, Damini and Disaster Prahari apps can be downloaded from Google Play Store.

What to do and what not to do during lightning

If you are in the open, take shelter in a concrete house as soon as possible. Stay in your vehicle while travelling. Stay away from windows, doors, verandahs and roofs. Stay away from objects that are good conductors of electricity. Avoid contact with electrical equipment or wires and remove electrical equipment from contact with electricity. Also maintain distance from ponds and water bodies. Do not stand in a group, rather stand separately. If you are in the forest, take shelter under dwarf and dense trees. Do not use objects made of metal when you are outside. Stay away from bikes, electricity or telephone poles, wire fences, machines etc. Keep yourself away from agricultural equipment made of metal, sticks etc.

In case of a person getting injured due to lightning, arrangements should be made to immediately take him to the nearest first aid centre. Keep getting weather information on local radio or other means of communication. If you are working in the fields and are unable to take shelter in a safe place, then stay where you are. If possible, keep dry things like wood, plastic, sack or dry leaves under your feet. Keep both feet together and close your ears with both hands and bend your head towards the ground as much as possible and do not let your head touch the ground. Never lie down on the ground.

He told not to take shelter in areas with tall buildings. Also, never take shelter under electricity or telephone poles, because tall trees, tall buildings and telephone and electricity poles attract lightning. If you are going on foot, do not use umbrellas with metal rods. If you are at home, do not touch the water tap, refrigerator, telephone etc. In case of lightning, the immediate cause of death is heart attack. If necessary, start life-saving measures and first aid. Before giving life-saving measures, first aid, make sure that the body of the affected person is not being affected by electricity. The pulse and breathing of the victim should be going on.
