Three thieves including a woman arrested, Rs 70 thousand cash and jewellery recovered


Kanpur, June 13 (HS). The Commissionerate Police on Thursday arrested three thieves who used to target passengers in autos. A woman is also among them. 70 thousand rupees in cash and jewellery have been recovered from the possession of the thieves.

DCP Central RS Gautam told in a press conference on Thursday that on June 5, Shweta Tripathi left Delhi by Shatabdi Express train and got down at Kanpur Central Station. She booked an auto from Ghantaghar outside the station and after reaching Shastri Nagar Kakadev house, she started unloading her luggage from the auto. Meanwhile, the auto driver got a chance and fled with one of Shweta's bags. When she came out, the auto was not there and the bag contained documents, four thousand rupees and some jewellery. On this, Shweta's father lodged a complaint in the police station and Sub Inspector Dilip Singh was given the responsibility of revealing the incident.

The accused have been arrested with the help of surveillance and CCTV footage, which includes a woman. During interrogation, it was found that all of them together commit this crime with passengers. The arrested thieves include Om Shankar Patel, originally from Kaushambi district and resident of Sanigwan, Satyam from Lal Bangla and Shanu from Fazalganj. They have 70 thousand rupees in cash which they got by selling the jewellery, along with the auto used in the crime and some jewellery made of yellow metal which includes rings, tops etc. The accused are being sent to jail after legal action.
