The sale of beards, hijabs and religious texts has been banned in the Muslim-majority country of Tajikistan

Dushanbe: Although 96 percent of the population in Tajikistan is Muslim, there is a strict ban on keeping beard and women wearing hijab. Tajikistan's constitution is secular, which guarantees everyone the right to follow their religion, however Tajikistan's President Emoli Rahmon has banned beard and hijab, as well as religious books in bookstores.

Giving this information, the US said that this staunch communist leader, who was in power for 30 years in Tajikistan, also closed all religious book shops in 2022.

Earlier in 2015, a ban was imposed on girls under the age of 15 from wearing hijab. But now that ban applies to all women.

Apart from this, President Rahmans has banned all religious activities except funerals and has also banned post-mortem dinners. At the same time, strict restrictions have been imposed in terms of numbers in wedding dinners. Also, there is a fixed number of people to be taken in the funeral procession or the procession taken out at the time of marriage and government officials keep a strict watch on this.

In 1920-21, Turkish President Kamal Ataturk not only made stricter rules than President Imohan Rahman, but he also banned beards and hijabs. The education sector was also reformed and a modern education system was introduced instead of only religious education. Such a modern education system is now being adopted in Tajikistan.
