Strong earthquake tremors have been felt in Java, Indonesia. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake measured 6.6 on the Richter scale. According to the information, the epicenter of the quake was located about 88 km south-west of Labuan, a coastal city in Banten province in the Indian Ocean and was centered at a depth of 37 km. According to initial reports, no casualties have been reported. Also, no warning has been given regarding tsunami.

According to Indonesia’s Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, there is no threat of a tsunami at present. Indonesia is a vast archipelago nation and is prone to frequent earthquakes. But feeling the tremors of an earthquake in the capital Jakarta is an unusual phenomenon. Java has a population of about 10 million and has skyscrapers, whose residents felt the shaking of the earthquake for a few seconds. At the same time, strong tremors of the earthquake were also felt in the houses of satellite city Tangerang.
