Teachers' Day celebrated at BHU with honoring retired teachers | News India

Varanasi, 05 September (HS). Retired teachers were honored at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on Teachers' Day on Thursday. In a ceremony organized at the Udupa Auditorium located on the campus, teachers who superannuated in the academic session 2023-24 looked emotional after receiving the honor.

Speaking at the ceremony, former Vice Chancellor of BHU, scientist Prof. Rakesh Bhatnagar said that Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya had established Banaras Hindu University with the objective of all-round development of students and preparing them as responsible citizens who can make positive and active contribution in the development of society and nation. Now the teachers of this university are playing an important role in fulfilling these objectives.

Prof. Bhatnagar said that as Vice Chancellor, he has seen in BHU that the role of teachers in the progress of students is not limited to classrooms only. They inspire and encourage their students to lead a value based education and an ideal life. It is the initiation received in this university that prepares students better for the challenges of the future.

Presiding over the function, Vice Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain said that Teachers' Day has special significance for Banaras Hindu University. Firstly because Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan had a long association with the university and secondly because the contribution of Banaras Hindu University in the field of education in India is incomparable. Both these reasons make the occasion of Teachers' Day of special importance for the university.

Highlighting the role and contribution of teachers in the progress of educational institutions, Vice Chancellor Prof. Jain called upon the teachers of BHU to take the lead and take the university on the path of progress and prestige. He said that the talent and ability of teachers should not be tied down by procedures and administrative barriers, but they should be made more empowered and capable for the purpose of teaching, research and student welfare.

The Vice Chancellor said that to achieve common goals, we have to rise above personal differences and ensure that our differences do not become an obstacle in our own and the institution's progress. Prof. Jain praised the contribution of Prof. Rakesh Bhatnagar as the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University and said that the kind of exemplary leadership he displayed regarding appointments in the university is incomparable.
