Tata Group joins hands with Lockheed Martin, C-130J Super Hercules will be manufactured | News India

New Delhi, September 10 (HS). An important agreement has been reached between Tata Group company Tata Advanced Systems Limited and American defense product manufacturing company Lockheed Martin regarding the aircraft lifter project. Both the companies have announced to start a partnership for the C-130J Super Hercules Tactical Airlifter Project. Work will be done towards setting up the maintenance, repair and overhauling facility of the Hercules fleet along with the existing fleet of the Indian Air Force.

Recently, during the visit of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to the US, an agreement was reached to strengthen defense relations between India and the US. After this, the agreement between Lockheed Martin and Tata Advanced Systems Limited for the Airlifter project is being considered a very important development. According to the agreement between the two companies, a framework will be prepared for the Airlifter project. The Indian Air Force uses the C-130J Hercules and has a fleet of 12 aircraft. Work will be done towards setting up the maintenance, repair and overhauling facility of the Hercules fleet along with the existing fleet.

Tata Advanced Systems has said that if approved by the governments of India and the US, then along with the expansion of assembly and manufacturing of C-130J in India, work can also be done towards manufacturing aircraft for the Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program for the Air Force. This is also important because the Air Force is planning to buy 80 medium transport aircraft in the coming days. For this, a global tender was also issued in 2023, to which Lockheed Martin also gave a positive response. It is being claimed that if Lockheed Martin gets the contract to manufacture medium transport aircraft, then this company will also set up a unit for assembly capacity and extra production in India.

US aerospace giant Lockheed Martin and Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) have announced a 'teaming agreement' to advance business ties through the C-130J Super Hercules tactical aircraftlifter. Lockheed Martin and Tata already have a joint venture called 'Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Ltd'. The Hyderabad plant produces parts of the C-130J for the US-headquartered company's global supply chain. Lockheed Martin said in a statement that the announcement is an important step in enhancing India's defence and aerospace capabilities as well as deepening the India-US strategic relationship. The agreement provides a framework for collaboration on potential future business opportunities.
