India Afghanistan: After almost three years, a representative of the Taliban government of Afghanistan has been appointed in India. The Foreign Ministry of Afghanistan has informed that Dr. Ikramuddin Kamil has been appointed as Acting Counselor at the Afghan Consulate in Mumbai. He will work in the Consular Services Department and promote cooperation between India and Afghanistan.
Taliban government is not recognized
The Indian Foreign Ministry has confirmed this, but has also clarified that this does not mean that the Taliban government has been recognized. India will work together with the international community in this regard. External Affairs Ministry sources said almost all diplomats working in Afghan embassies and consulates have taken refuge in Western countries or left India in the last three years. There is only one diplomat left here because of whom the Afghan embassy is functioning.
Large number of Afghans in India
On the other hand, there are a large number of Afghan nationals in India who require diplomatic services. A large number of consular officers are required to provide proper service to these citizens. Let us tell you that the Afghan consular officers are the ones to whom the Taliban government has handed over the responsibility of India.
Consular Charge in India
Sources say that the Foreign Ministry is already aware of the new consular in-charge. He received his education in India and obtained his doctorate from the South Asian University on a scholarship from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. For India, this is an Afghan citizen, who will work for the welfare of the Afghan citizens here. When asked whether India has given recognition to Taliban, sources said that there is a process of recognition of any government. India will work together with the international community in this regard.
A team from the Ministry of External Affairs had gone to Afghanistan
It is noteworthy that recently a special team of the Indian Foreign Ministry had gone to Kabul. The team also met the Defense Minister of the Taliban government. After the sudden withdrawal of US forces in August 2021, Taliban has captured Kabul. It was then believed that Taliban would be against India’s interests, but it was not so. Whereas relations with Pakistan, which nurtured Taliban, have also deteriorated. Military tensions also continue between the Taliban and Pakistan, while India is sending food and medicines to Afghan civilians.
