Sumit Nagal, who has qualified for the Olympics, has achieved a career-best 68th rank in the ATP tennis singles rankings. 26-year-old Nagal has gained five places. His previous ranking was 71st.
Nagal has surpassed former world number 71 Shashi Mann to become fourth in the list of highest ranked Indian players since 1973. Vijay Amritraj (number 18 in 1980), Ramesh Krishnan (number 23 in 1985) and Somdev Devvarman (number 62 in 2011) have achieved higher rankings than Nagal on the ATP circuit. Due to recent good results, Nagal's ranking has been steadily improving and he has also managed to qualify for the men's singles at the Paris Olympics.
Nagle is the only Indian to qualify for the men's singles at the Paris Games and has 779 ATP points. Nagle also entered the main draw of three Grand Slams Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon this year. Nagle won the men's singles title at the Hillbronn Neckarcup Challengers event in June and the Chennai Open in February. Nagle has won four ATP Challengers titles since 2023.
