Material
- 1/2 cup rice
- 1/4 cup urad dal
- 1/2 cup green peas
- 1/2 inch piece of ginger
- 2 green chillies
- 1 tomato
- 1 piece cinnamon
- 2 cloves
- 5 black peppers
- 1 large cardamom
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 1/2 pinch asafoetida
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon red chilli
- salt as per taste
Method of preparation
- Fry: First of all, add 2-3 tablespoons of ghee in the cooker and heat it. After this, add cumin, asafoetida, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, and black cardamom and fry on medium flame.
- Mixing spices: When the masala is roasted, add tomato, turmeric, green chilli, ginger and green peas and fry well. When the tomatoes become soft, add urad dal, rice, red chili powder, and salt to the cooker and stir for a while.
- Cook: Mix all the remaining ingredients and fry for about 5 minutes. Then add 1.5 cups of water in the cooker and close the lid. Let the cooker cook for one whistle on high flame and one whistle on medium flame.
- Serve: When the pressure of the cooker is released, mix the khichdi well. Your tasty Urad Dal Khichdi is ready. Take it out in a plate, add a spoon of ghee on top and serve it with hot chutney, pickle, and papad.
