Jaunpur, 29 July (HS). Farmers are facing problems due to continuous unannounced power cuts and lack of water in canals in the district. On Monday, Samajwadi Party District President Rakesh Maurya reached the Collectorate premises and handed over an 8-point memorandum on the problems of farmers to District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandhad. While handing over the memorandum, District President Rakesh Maurya said that electricity should be supplied as per roster in the city and rural areas, faulty transformers should be replaced immediately, worn out wires should be repaired immediately, high tension wires should be repaired, broken roads should be constructed in the city and rural areas, water should be delivered to the tail end of the canals for irrigation and transplantation in the interest of farmers, agricultural losses caused by stray animals and protection from loss of life should be taken immediately. He also demanded immediate resolution of other public interest issues including improving law and order to curb rising crime.
The District Magistrate said that a meeting has been held with the officials of Sharda Sahayak Khand Canal Project and they have been asked to release water in the canals for irrigation of the farmers. Arrangements are also being made for electricity supply. A meeting has been held with the officials of Namami Gange Project regarding the roads and instructions have been given to repair the roads as soon as possible.
