As soon as this shadow falls on the Earth, the Sun ceases to be visible. This is called eclipse. Sometimes, if the Moon is at a greater distance from the Earth, the Sun is not completely covered, but a ring of the Sun is visible around the Moon. This situation is called annular eclipse.
