Shagun Kit: 3940 Shagun Kit will give hope to newly married couples, see update here

There is a good news for newly married couples. Now Asha workers will go door-to-door and give Shagun kits to such newly married people. 3940 Shagun kits will be distributed in urban and rural areas of Ghaziabad district. Asha will make the bride aware about family planning and health by giving her a Shagun kit. Not only this, newly married couples will also be motivated to register their marriage.

Preparations have been made by the District Health Committee to distribute Shagun kits to new couples. For this, each Asha worker has been given four to five kits. 240 ASHAs in urban areas and 624 in rural areas will knock on the doors of the newly married couple and give the kit to the bride as a shagun.

What is included in Shagun Kit

The Shagun kit will contain towel, bindi, mask, two handkerchiefs, comb, mirror, safety razor, nail cutter, marriage registration application, Shagun booklet, greeting message and a pouch and carry bag. Dr. Ravindra Kumar, Nodal Officer of Safe Motherhood and Child Scheme, said that the purpose of giving Shagun Kit to the bride is to make the new couples aware about family planning. The ASHA worker will also tell the bride about safe and unsafe days. Along with this, information will also be given about the method of taking contraceptive medicine.

Marriage registration application has also been made available in Shagun Kit by the Health Department. New couples have also been advised to register under the Special Marriage Act 1954 and the Hindu Marriage Act 1955. This registration can also be done by applying online on the website of the Stamp and Registration Department. Asha workers will also motivate new couples for marriage registration.

Dr. Ravindra Kumar, nodal officer of Safe Motherhood and Child Care Scheme in Ghaziabad, said that ASHA workers have been instructed to target new couples in their respective areas. They have been asked to make them aware about family planning by giving them Shagun kits.
