Seven agreements signed between India and Bhutan

New Delhi, March 22 (HS). Bilateral talks were held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay in Thimphu on Friday. Seven agreements were signed between the two countries during this period. These agreements are related to oil, food, energy, sports, health, space and education.

Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay of Bhutan reviewed bilateral relations and reiterated their commitment to further strengthen the multi-dimensional partnership. During this period some agreements were signed between the two countries. Under this agreement, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) will recognize the certificate of Bhutan Food and Drug Authority (BFDA). This will make doing business easier. Apart from this, a joint action plan on space cooperation has been approved. Both the countries have also agreed to make an agreement to connect the railways.

Apart from this, cooperation related to normal supply of petroleum, oil and related products from India to Bhutan, cooperation in the field of energy efficiency and energy conservation measures, cooperation in sports and youth sector, cooperation related to sharing of reference standards, pharmacopoeia, vigilance and testing of medicinal products. But MoUs have been signed. The MoU on coordination arrangement between India's National Knowledge Network (NKN) and Bhutan's Druk Research and Education Network has been renewed.

Prime Minister Modi also met Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk. In this regard, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that while reiterating their commitment to the special and unique India-Bhutan friendship, the two leaders reviewed bilateral relations and discussed ways to take them to new levels. Prime Minister Modi reached Bhutan's capital Thimphu on Friday on a two-day state visit. The Prime Minister was given a grand welcome at the airport.
