Sensex fell 230 points to 81381 due to profit booking in stocks over the weekend.

Mumbai: Indian stock markets ended the week today with Sensex, Nifty based markets in negative territory as funds booked profits in banking-finance, automobile stocks. Other Asian markets remained strong over the weekend amid hopes of a $283 billion stimulus-relief package from the government, offset by losses in China. But the possibility that Israel could launch a major attack at any time in response to Iran's missile attack 11 days ago prompted funds and investors to avoid holding large bullish positions over the weekend. However, the market fall remained subdued as funds made selective purchases in metal-mining, IT, pharmaceuticals stocks today. Finally, Sensex closed 230.05 points down at 81381.36 and Nifty 50 spot index closed 34.20 points down at 24964.20. Selective gains continued in small and midcap stocks.

Bankex down 360 points: ICICI Bank, BOB, Axis, HDFC Bank fall

Funds booked profits in banking-finance stocks today. ICICI Bank fell by Rs 20.40 to Rs 1222.85, Bank of Baroda fell by Rs 4 to Rs 242.30, Axis Bank fell by Rs 9.50 to Rs 1174.25, HDFC Bank fell by Rs 12.05 to Rs 1650.25. While State Bank of India rose by Rs 3.05 to Rs 800, Kotak Mahindra Bank rose by Rs 7.05 to Rs 1882.70, Federal Bank rose by Rs 1.65 to Rs 187.35. BSE Bankex index closed 359.57 points down at 58263.75.

Bullish trading in auto stocks easy: Cummins falls by Rs 170 to Rs 3611: Mahindra, Maruti fall

Hyundai India Motor's mega IPO of shares worth Rs 27856 crore is set to open next week, today there was talk of making fund provisions to ease bullish trading in other auto stocks. Cummins India fell by Rs 169.60 to Rs 3611.75, Mahindra & Mahindra fell by Rs 58.40 to Rs 3135, Maruti Suzuki fell by Rs 168.90 to Rs 12,774.40, Balkrishna Industries fell by Rs 36.70 to Rs 3024.15. Sundaram fell by Rs 14.55 to Rs 1433.50. BSE Auto index fell 270.04 points to close at 59701.22.

At the end of the week, small cap stocks remained attractive: Market breadth positive: 2068 shares closed positive

Sensex based on banking, auto stocks, Nifty remained attractive today against weakness in small, mid cap stocks, funds, players, market breadth was marginally positive. Of the total 4011 stocks traded on BSE, the number of gainers decreased from 2199 to 2068 and the number of decliners increased from 1730 to 1840.

China's new mega package brightens metal stocks: SAIL, NMDC, Hindalco rise

Metal-mining stocks jumped today on the prospect of China announcing another massive $283 billion package. SAIL rose by Rs 4.15 to Rs 134.10, NMDC rose by Rs 7.05 to Rs 233.35, Jindal Steel rose by Rs 12.75 to Rs 1003, Vedanta rose by Rs 5.10 to Rs 497.40, JSW Steel rose by Rs 10.30. Rs 017.10, Coal India rose by Rs 4.65 to Rs 493, Tata Steel rose by Rs 1.05 to Rs 160.70. BSE Metal Index closed 416.23 points higher at 33647.77.

Healthcare stocks rise again: Newland rises by Rs 1767 to Rs 14,268: Unichem, Wockhardt, Mankind rise

Funds from healthcare-pharmaceutical companies increased again today. Newland Labs rose by Rs 1767.45 to Rs 14,268.20, Unichem Labs rose by Rs 45.25 to Rs 715, Wockhardt rose by Rs 47.35 to Rs 994.95, Granules India rose by Rs 24.45 to Rs 2789.15, IPCA Labs rose by Rs 63.45. NGL fine increased by Rs 30 to Rs 1655.70 It rose by Rs 73.05 to Rs 2135.80, Divi's Lab rose by Rs 200.65 to Rs 6141.15, Sun Pharma Advance rose by Rs 6.95 to Rs 212.95. BSE Healthcare index closed 374.40 points higher at 44445.31.

Quick Hill rises from Rs 55 to Rs 811: Nucleus, Netweb, Persistent, 63 Moons, KPIT rise

Funds remained attractive in IT-software services stocks today. Quick Hill Technology increased by Rs 54.60 to Rs 811.55, Nucleus Software increased by Rs 83.60 to Rs 1296.85, Netweb increased by Rs 166.40 to Rs 2615.70, Sonata increased by Rs 36.10 to Rs 608.50, Persistent increased by Rs 224.95. Tax Rs 5466.45, KPIT Technology 53.10 63 Moons Technology rose by Rs 11.80 to Rs 438.50, HCL Technology rose by Rs 1784.45. Tech Mahindra rose by Rs 29.55 to Rs 1839.55, Tech Mahindra rose by Rs 25.45 to Rs 1645.75. BSE IT index closed at 42827.08, up 249.54 points.

Sudarshan Chemical rose by Rs 194 to Rs 1207: Usha Martin, Bandhan Bank, Dodla, Kirloskar pneumatic rose.

Among the group's selected gainers today, Sudarshan Chemical rose by Rs 193.70 to Rs 1207.50, Usha Martin rose by Rs 55.10 to Rs 422.30, Bandhan Bank rose by Rs 23.25 to Rs 211, Dodla Dairy rose by Rs 20. Net purchase of shares worth Rs 3730 crore by DIIs: Sale of shares worth Rs 4163 crore by FPI/FII

Foreign portfolio investors – FPIs, FIIs made a net sale of shares worth Rs 4162.66 crore in cash today Friday. There were sales of Rs 10,382.42 crore against total purchases of Rs 6219.76 crore. Whereas DII-Domestic Institutional Investors made net purchases of Rs 3730.87 crore in cash today. There were total sales of Rs 8175.64 crore against total purchases of Rs 11,906.51 crore.
