LK Advani admitted to Delhi AIIMS: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani has been admitted to AIIMS hospital in Delhi after his health deteriorated. According to the information received, he has been admitted to the hospital due to age-related problems. He has been kept under the supervision of a doctor in the geriatric department of AIIMS.
However, 96-year-old LK Advani is facing age-related health problems. That is why he gets periodic checkups at home. Late Wednesday evening, he felt some discomfort and was taken to AIIMS, where doctors admitted him under their observation.
Who is LK Advani?
* He was born on November 8, 1927 in Sindh, independent India. He did his schooling from St. Patrick's School, Karachi. It was here that he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh at the age of 14.
* A few days before the partition of India in 1947, the Advani family moved to Delhi.
* In 1951, he joined BJP's predecessor party Jansangh. At that time Jansangh was founded by Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Advani also met him. They entered politics together.
* In 1970 he was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha where he remained till 1989.
* In December 1972, he was elected President of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
* During the Emergency, Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee were in Bangalore, where they were arrested.
* In 1975, Morarji Desai's Janata Party government was formed and Advani was made the Minister of Information and Broadcasting.
* He played an important role in the establishment of BJP in 1980 by standing with Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
* He played a leading role in the movement started in the 1990s for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
* He was elected BJP President thrice from 1986-90, 1993 to '98 and 2004, 2005.
* He held the posts of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister during Atal Bihari Vajpayee's NDA government.
* He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1970. In 1989, he was elected to the Lok Sabha seat from New Delhi.
* In 1991, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Gandhinagar in Gujarat and New Delhi and won both. However, he decided to retain the Gandhinagar seat. He last contested in 2014 and contested again from Gandhinagar and emerged victorious.
But due to old age and poor health, he retired from politics.
