The government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Center announced that the subsidy of Rs 300 per LPG cylinder to poor women under the Ujjwala scheme will continue. Now it is going to be implemented from April 1, 2024.
It is clear from this that the beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme will get a discount of Rs 300 on LPG cylinder during the financial year 2024-25. Let us tell you here that in October last year, the subsidy on 12 cylinders of 14.2 kg each was increased from Rs 200 to Rs 300.
This subsidy was for the current financial year i.e. till 31 March 2024. Of course, then the government has decided to retain this subsidy in the financial year 2024-25 also. About 10 crore families are likely to benefit from these measures and Rs 12 thousand crore will be spent on it.
To provide Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to rural and poor families, the government provided free LPG connections to women from poor families. This scheme was launched by Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in May, 2016. Of course the beneficiaries had to buy LPG refills at market price.
Of course, then in May, 2022 PMUY announced a subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder to the beneficiaries. Later it was increased to Rs 300 in October, 2023. The government transfers the subsidy directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
