New Delhi/Dhaka, August 11 (HS). Amidst heavy turmoil in Bangladesh, more than 200 people have died in an attack on Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar's Rakhine state. This attack took place in Rakhine province on the border of Myanmar and Bangladesh when Rohingya Muslims were trying to enter Bangladesh. When the survivors were asked about this attack, they blamed the Arakan Army for it.

The Arakan Army is the military wing of the Rakhine ethnic group in Myanmar. However, this army has denied any responsibility for the attack.

This attack happened when some Rohingya Muslims were waiting for a boat near a river in an area bordering Bangladesh. This attack happened near the Bangladesh border in Myanmar's western Rakhine state. People jumped directly into the river to save themselves. These people were trying to escape from the fierce fighting in Maungdaw city by crossing the Naf river in Bangladesh.

A statement issued by the international medical aid group, Doctors Without Borders, on Friday, August 9, said that it is treating Rohingya Muslims after the attacks and the number of injured people is constantly increasing. Those who are being treated are those who have managed to cross the border to Bangladesh.

The Arakan Army launched its Rakhine offensive in November 2023 and has gained control of nine of the 17 townships, including one in neighbouring Chin state. It has been trying to capture the border town of Maungdaw since June.

In 2017, a military counter-terrorism operation forced at least 740,000 Rohingyas to flee to safety in Bangladesh. Seven years later, they are still living in camps, wanting to return to Myanmar but being prevented by the country's unstable situation.
