Retail inflation in June: Due to the scorching heat, inflation has hit once again. After onion and potato, the prices of most vegetables including tomato, lemon are skyrocketing. Since the end of May, the prices of vegetables have increased continuously and have almost doubled. According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the prices of onion, potato, tomato have increased the most. Along with this, rice, pulses and other food items have also become expensive. In the last one year, the prices of essential commodities have increased by 65 percent.
According to data available on the website of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, on June 21 last year, the price of rice was Rs. 40 per kg which has increased to Rs. 45 per kg. The price of moong dal has increased by 10 percent per kg to Rs. 119. Sugar has also increased to Rs. 45 per kg.

Edible oil prices fell
On one hand, the price of vegetables has increased, on the other hand, the price of edible oils has come down. The prices of singoil have remained almost stable. Mustard oil has come down from Rs. 142 per liter to Rs. 139 per liter, soya oil from Rs. 132 per liter. The price of palm oil is Rs. 125 per liter. It has come down from Rs. 106 to Rs. 100 per liter. The price of tea has gone up from Rs. 274 per kg to Rs. 280.
The reason behind the price hike
This year, record-breaking heat has been recorded in India. The effects of extreme heat and drought due to climate change have caused damage to crops. Due to which the prices of food items have increased. Vegetables may become cheaper due to the expectation of good rains in August. However, high prices of milk, cereals and pulses are likely to persist.
