Prayagraj, 29 July (HS). Ghazipur MP Afzal Ansari has got relief from Allahabad High Court. The sentence given under Gangster Act in Krishnanand murder case has been cancelled.
The High Court has accepted Afzal Ansari's appeal. Also, the four-year sentence given by the special court in the gangster case has been cancelled. Now Afzal's membership of Parliament will remain intact. This decision was given by the court of Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh.
Afzal Ansari was sentenced to four years of imprisonment by the MP MLA court of Ghazipur in the gangster case after the Krishnanand murder case. Against this, Afzal Ansari had filed an appeal in the High Court to cancel the sentence and the state government and Krishnanand Rai's son had filed an appeal to increase the sentence. Earlier, Afzal's appeal was rejected by the High Court, against which he had knocked the door of the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court suspended the sentence and sent the case back to the High Court for rehearing. After hearing on the order of the Supreme Court, the court reserved the decision on July 4. Senior advocates Gopal Swaroop Chaturvedi, Dayashankar Mishra and Upendra Upadhyay, arguing on behalf of Afzal, argued that the gangster action initiated due to the Krishnanand Rai murder case is illegal, because Afzal Ansari has been acquitted of the Krishnanand Rai murder case.
