UP Ration Card Rules: The Uttar Pradesh government has recently taken a tough stand on the ration card system and implemented some new rules. The aim of these new rules is to curb fake ration cards and ensure that the benefits of subsidized ration reach only eligible people. According to the new rules, if the annual income of a ration card holder's family exceeds Rs 2 lakh in rural areas and Rs 3 lakh in urban areas, then their ration card can be cancelled.

Apart from this, if a family has more than 5 acres of irrigated land (in rural areas) or a plot/house of more than 100 square metres (in urban areas), their ration card can also be cancelled. (The limit of irrigated land for rural areas of Bundelkhand and Sonbhadra districts is 7.5 acres.)

E-KYC update mandatory:

The state government is updating e-KYC (Know Your Customer) for ration card holders from time to time. This is a kind of digital verification, which ensures that the ration card is being used correctly.

Your ration card may be cancelled
If you have not updated your e-KYC yet, then get it updated as soon as possible through your nearest ration card office or mobile app. If you do not update e-KYC, then your ration card can also be cancelled.

Only one ration card per family
Under the new rules, a family should have only one ration card. If a family is found to have more than one ration card, they can be cancelled. Not only this, those who make fake ration cards can also be fined.

The government's goal is that the benefits of ration cards should reach only those who are really in need. Therefore, after cancelling fake ration cards, the remaining ration will be distributed to the actual eligible people by giving them ration cards.
