Mumbai: The mortal remains of philanthropist industrialist and Tata Group chief Ratan Tata were given Panchmahabhoot Samadhi today with deafening slogans of 'Bharat-Ratan Amar Rahe…Bharat Mata Ki Jai…' The cremation was performed at the electric crematorium in Worli with full political honors and a huge crowd rather than dignitaries.
Ratan Naval Tata breathed his last at the age of 86 at Breach-Candy Hospital in South Mumbai late last night. This morning, Sadgat's mortal remains were kept at NCPA, Nariman Point for the last darshan. His mortal remains were kept in a tricolor-draped coffin at the NCPA. Many celebrities including Sharad Pawar, Supriya Sule, Raj Thackeray, Uddhav Thackeray, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Deepak Parekh, Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das, Aamir Khan came to pay tribute to him. Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar today reached his home in Colaba before his mortal remains were brought to the NCPA. Businessman Mukesh Ambani also reached the hospital last night and today also came to NCPA with his wife Nita Ambani.
Many big leaders and officials including Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar were present in the NCPA.
Traffic restrictions were imposed in parts of Marine Drive and Nariman Point due to heavy crowd throughout the day. Maharashtra government has declared one day mourning today.
