Drinking water is probably the easiest activity. There is hardly any room for mistake. But in his new video on YouTube, Dr. Eric Berg talks about 6 common mistakes made while drinking water. Our video says that most of us have made these mistakes at some point in our lives. Next time you drink water, don’t do it without thinking. Be careful and make sure you don’t make the mistakes mentioned above. Let’s look at six such mistakes one by one.
Mistake 1: Drinking too much water
We all have heard that people drink more water for good health and beautiful skin. Although drinking two to three liters of water a day is recommended, anything more than that can have harmful effects. One such effect is that when you drink a lot of water it dilutes the electrolytes, especially salt, in your body. It can also cause a condition called hyponatremia, which is characterized by very low sodium levels. It is a serious condition that can be fatal in some cases. So drink the right amount of water.
Mistake 2: Drinking water too quickly
It’s not a big issue. But in some cases, drinking too much water too soon will cause your blood to lose sodium balance. This can lead to an electrolyte imbalance, which can lead to swelling in some cases.
Mistake 3: Drinking the Wrong Fluids
Many times we drink liquids thinking that they have a hydrating effect, but they are proven otherwise. Such “liquids” include tea, coffee, alcohol and soda. They flush fluid out of your body. So choose your liquids wisely.
Mistake 4: Drinking water while eating
We all are advised to never drink water in between meals in our life. Yes, it not only satisfies your hunger but also has harmful effects. Water dilutes your gastric juices, making them difficult to digest, especially proteins. Not only that, you may have acid reflux and even GRD. If you feel thirsty, drink little water in between meals. Otherwise, limit it to 30 minutes before a meal and 30 minutes after a meal.
Mistake 5: Drinking cold water
It is common to open the fridge and drink cold water in the scorching heat. Although it may sound good. It can damage your vagus nerve, which is the longest nerve in the immune system.
Mistake 6: Drinking tap water
Sometimes we may have to resort to tap water. It is unsafe to do so because tap water is full of harmful toxins like chlorine and fluoride that can harm you. Also, in many places in India, groundwater is contaminated with arsenic, which can be carcinogenic.
