IAS Officer Success Story – The Civil Services Examination of the Union Public Service Commission is considered to be one of the toughest examinations in the country and lakhs of candidates appear for this examination every year. But only a few are successful. Some of these students are also those who have been working hard for many years to crack the UPSC exam and do not give up even after facing continuous failures.

Such is the story of Sumit Kumar Rai. Sumit is a resident of Dhanbad, Jharkhand. After four consecutive failures, he did not give up and succeeded in his fifth attempt to become an IAS officer. Sumit Kumar Rai worked full time during UPSC exam preparation, which he could not give up. He used to get up at 4 in the morning to prepare for the job as well as the exams and study continuously for 2-3 hours before going to the office.

Even after coming from office, he used to study for the same number of hours. Sumit’s office hours were from 8.30 am to 6 pm. Sometimes due to office stress, he could not even come home to study, and sometimes he was so tired that sometimes he did not feel like studying. Sumit says that during working days he used to get only 4-5 hours for studies but on weekends he used to get a lot of time, which he took full advantage of.

Sumit used to achieve his goal on vacation as he had enough time to study according to his goal. The journey of becoming an IAS officer was not easy for him at all. He did not give up as he failed the UPSC exam four times and in 2018 Sumit cleared the UPSC exam. Secured 54th rank in All India and fulfilled his dream of becoming an IAS.
