Mumbai : A special CBI court on Wednesday sent former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh to CBI custody till April 11. A scuffle broke out in the court today (April 6) between the CBI lawyers and the lawyers of Anil Deshmukh. The CBI today detained Anil Deshmukh from Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail in connection with its probe into allegations of corruption. The court has now sent him to CBI custody. It is worth noting that Anil Deshmukh was accused of corruption by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh.
What happened in court?
CBI prosecutors told the court today that the case was registered following the High Court order. The CBI told the court that the probe found that Sanjeev Palande, Kundan Shinde and Sachin Waje were also involved in the case. The CBI counsel told the court that Anil Deshmukh should also be arrested and his custody was required so that the four could be interrogated face to face.
In the court, the CBI lawyer claimed that Anil Deshmukh has been extorting money from the owners of Mumbai several times through Sachin Waje. For this Sanjeev Palande and Kundan Shinde were also in touch with Sachin. So far a ransom of Rs 4.60 crore has been raised. Anil Deshmukh was sitting on the chair during the discussion in the court.
CBI prosecutors said there was a lot of corruption in the recovery case. Therefore, Anil wants to take Deshmukh into custody and take him to Delhi for questioning. CBI has sought 10-day custody of Anil Deshmukh from the court.
On the request of the CBI, the court questioned why he had to be taken to Delhi for questioning. The CBI counsel said, “Our setup is completely in Delhi. The case has been registered in Delhi. It is very important to investigate the accused and the evidence accompanying him. All these features are not available here.
