The PM wrote on Twitter, “We have set an important milestone in our resolve to provide a pucca house to every poor family in the country. It is only with the help of Indians that it has been possible to build more than three crore houses. These houses with basic facilities have also become a symbol of women empowerment today.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), launched in 2015, aims to provide ‘pucca’ homes to the country’s poor population who cannot afford or build a shelter. This initiative was launched with a target to build 2 crore affordable houses by 31st March 2022.


The construction of 2.52 crore houses has been completed under PM Awas Yojana (Rural). An amount of Rs 1.95 lakh crore was sanctioned for this.

So far 58 lakh houses have been constructed under PM Awas Yojana (Urban).


Rs 1.18 lakh crore was sanctioned for this.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, basic facilities are available in every house including gas connection, water connection and electricity.

According to the PM Awas Yojana Urban website, around 122.69 lakh houses have been sanctioned by the Center so far, while 92.7 lakh houses have been grounded.
