Kathua, 07 April (H.S.). Despite the ban on bringing and transporting animals by vehicles in the district, animal smugglers are not deterred. The police are making efforts to smuggle cattle every day, but in spite of that this business is in full swing. Now smugglers are trying to smuggle by adopting different tactics, which is being thwarted by the Kathua police.

On Thursday, the district police thwarted the animal smuggling attempt and freed a total of five animals from smugglers in Kathua area. As per the guidelines of SSP Kathua Rameshchandra Kotwal, under the supervision of Police Station Hiranagar in-charge Sunil Kumar under the leadership of SDPO Border Pankaj Sudan, the team of Hiranagar Police, during routine naka/checking duty in their jurisdiction National Highway Londi Mor, got a Tata Mobile Load Carrier Number. JK02AU-6818 stopped for search on the basis of suspicion. Meanwhile, seeing the police party, the driver managed to escape from the spot leaving the vehicle and all the cows behind. During the search 05 bovine cattle were found from the vehicle, which were being transported without any legal permission. In this regard, Hiranagar police has started further investigation by taking possession of the vehicle and registering a case under FIR No. 43/2022 U/S 188/IPC 11 PCA. On the other hand, SSP Kathua said that Kathua Police is taking all possible steps to check the menace of bovine smuggling. He appealed to the public to share information about bovine smuggling with the police and the identity of the informer would be kept confidential.
