Kochi/Mumbai/Chennai/Goa: As Easter is being celebrated on Sunday, devotees participate in mass and prayer sessions in churches across the country. In Kochi, Kerala, Eastern Mass and prayer sessions were held at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica by the Syro-Malabar Church Major Archbishop Cardinal George Alenchery.

Devotees gathered in large numbers to attend sessions, pray and remember Jesus Christ, who rose from the dead on the day now known as Easter for his millions of devotees around the world. Hymns and prayers were heard in the centuries-old cathedral. During his speech to the devotees, Cardinal George Alenchery highlighted the widespread sectarian ideas, conflicts and the rise in riots and wars in the modern era and the loss of innocent lives due to it.

“We should develop a positive attitude of seeing everyone as brothers and sisters without any animosity,” he said. In Mumbai, the famous St. Michael’s Church also hosted a special Easter prayer. Devotees thronged in large numbers to remember the holy name of Lord Jesus. A devotee named Julie told the media, “It is an important day for us, today we are really happy. Jesus rose from the dead today. He died on the cross for us. He gave salvation to the whole world and gave a new one to all of us. life.”

“Today is a great day. God has saved us,” said another devotee named Emily. In Goa, Easter celebrations were celebrated with great enthusiasm and faith by the devotees at the Immaculate Conception Church in Panaji. An Easter Vigil was held outside the church. Father Walter De Sa, Parish Priest, Immaculate Conception Church, Goa told the media, “We will start Easter. The resurrection of the Lord Jesus is the climax of our celebration, the culmination of the Paschal mystery. After death, our Lord rose.”

“We are going to celebrate this victory over death and sin. The ceremony will begin with the blessings of fire and light. God is the light of the world, He removes all darkness, that is, sin and other evils. We’ll turn out all the lights, light a candle and enter the church. Once we’re inside the church, we’ll replace all of them. The significance is that the Lord is the light of the world.”
