Kolkata: Actor Shatrughan Sinha has won the Asansol by-election. Shatrughan Sinha, contesting on Trinamool Congress (TMC) ticket, has won from Asansol constituency in West Bengal by a margin of over 2 lakh votes. This is the first time that TMC has won the Asansol Lok Sabha seat. He has defeated BJP candidate Agnimitra Paul.
In the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Babul Supriyo won on a BJP ticket. Earlier this place belonged to MACP. That’s why Trinamool Congress has won this seat for the first time.
After the victory, Shatrughan Sinha said that the crown of victory goes to Mamta Banerjee. The credit for the victory goes to the people here. Here Trinamool Congress goes to the leaders. Goes to our workers.
He said, “I have come here with the ordinance on the instructions of Mamata Banerjee and the people of Asansol and now I bow before the love of these people.” I am more happy than me for Mamata Banerjee.
Describing it as a historic victory, he said, “I don’t know why the party could not win this seat despite Mamata Banerjee’s deserving. Now it seems we are on the right track, at the right time. Now, let’s come to the part where we talk about the middle ground.
The BJP had fielded Bollywood fashion designer Agnimitra Paul against Shatrughan Sinha. She defeated Sayani Ghosh of Trinamool from Asansol South constituency in the last year’s assembly elections. Now BJP had fielded him for the Lok Sabha by-elections.
