The Kaveri river passes near the town of Bilimora in Gandevi taluka of Navsari district. The distance to the sea from Bilimora and its surrounding villages is about 13 to 15 km. Due to heavy monsoon rains in the region, two to three major floods occur in the Kaveri and Ambika rivers every monsoon. However, due to the entry of brackish tidal water into the river, the groundwater in the river and adjoining bore-wells has become saline and cannot be used for domestic, irrigation or other purposes. Thus there is a huge and serious problem of fresh water for drinking as well as agriculture or other domestic use in Bilimora and about 10 villages.

 

The Waghrech Tidal Regulator Project is planned to be constructed at Waghrech village before the Kaveri river meets the Ambika river and in the lower reaches of the Bilimora Valsad Coastal Highway on the Kaveri river.
