Nainital : Former MLA and Congress leader Sanjeev Arya narrowly escaped after a mentally challenged man tried to attack him with a sharp weapon during an event in Nainital, Uttarakhand.
On Ambedkar Jayanti, a program was organized in Betalghat on behalf of PC Gorkha, Vice-Chairman of the Scheduled Castes Commission, in which Sanjeev Arya also participated. During the program a mentally challenged person came on stage and started attacking Arya with a sharp weapon. Arya narrowly escaped but suffered a minor injury to his hand while trying to dodge the attack.
During this, the businessman and leader Balam Singh, who was present on the stage, caught the attacker. The accused has been identified as Tok Jawa of Ghiroli village of Prem Ram.
It is being said that the accused is also mentally ill while Sanjeev Arya has refused to take legal action against the accused. The police took the youth into custody. After the incident, his wife reached the spot with the child and also brought with her the husband’s medical report.
The woman later apologizes to Sanjeev Arya for her husband’s mistake and requests him not to be sent to jail, to which Arya agrees.
