New Delhi : The Tata group, which has launched its much-awaited super app ‘New’ to bring most of its daily consumer offerings on a single platform, faced several issues on the first day of launch.

With over 5 lakh downloads on the Google Play Store on the first day, users faced sign-up issues and slow response times.

Users flooded social media with several complaints as the search engine of Tata New was slower than that of Amazon or Flipkart.

Tata Neo aims to take on Reliance and Amazon in the race to become the most popular super consumer app, addressing 12 segments including grocery, electronics, flights, hotels, health, beauty, luxury, cricket, entertainment and more.

Other companies like Amazon, Paytm and Reliance Jio have already created their own super apps, where they provide services like payments, content streaming, shopping, travel booking, groceries.

Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Industries’ JioMart is also set to get into the super app business.

Globally, successful super apps are built around core services such as social messaging, digital payments, food technology, e-mobility, online shopping, payment of utility bills, etc.

According to market research firm RedSeer, India’s consumer digital economy is projected to reach $800 billion by 2030 and online retail will make up the big pie.

The report said that the online retail market in the country is expected to grow to $350 billion in Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) over the next decade.
