Bridgetown, April 8 (H.S.). Barbados Royals has appointed Trevor Penney as their head coach for the 2022 season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Penny will work closely with Royals Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara. Currently, he is the assistant coach of Rajasthan Royals in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Penny has been a veteran of Warwickshire County Cricket Club, having spent a career spanning seventeen years as a player with the county club before beginning his extensive coaching career around the world.

Penny has vast experience of working on the international scene with the white ball team of India, Sri Lanka, England and most recently West Indies. He has worked as a coach with partner countries like Netherlands and USA. Zimbabwe’s Penny already has extensive experience in the IPL, CPL, Bangladesh Premier League and GT20 Canadian leagues.

On his appointment with the CPL franchise, Penny said, “It is wonderful to be part of the Royals family in a new league. I have been a part of the CPL before and am excited to be back in the league this time as part of the Barbados Royals. Working with Sangakkara, I think we have had a wonderful opportunity to create an environment that helps everyone express themselves and play the brand of cricket that we want to play here at the Royals.
