Suncheon, April 7 (H.S.). Thursday was a disappointing day for Indian badminton players in the Korea Open Badminton Championship 2022. While Malavika Bansod lost in the women’s singles category, Indian mixed doubles pair of B Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa also suffered a second round exit.

World number 65 Indian player Malavika was defeated by world number 10 and sixth seeded Thai player Pornpawi Chochuwong 21-8, 21-14 in a match that lasted 39 minutes.

In mixed doubles, B. Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa were defeated by Xuan Yi Ou and Ya Qiyong Huang of China. The Chinese pair defeated the Indian pair 20-22, 21-18, 14-21.

Earlier, Indian player Lakshya Sen also got out after losing in the second round. Lakshya was defeated 22-20, 21-9 by Indonesia’s world number 24 Shesar Hiren Rustawito in a 33-minute match at the Palma Stadium here.
