Defending champions Chennai Super Kings will take on Gujarat Titans in the second match of the IPL double-header on Sunday when their gameplan is put to the test between two new captains Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja. Both the captains are known for their all-round performances and both have done well for Indian cricket but the technical superiority between the two captains will also be at stake when both the teams take the field with the goal of extending their victories. The match will start at 7.30 pm at the MCA Stadium.

Test of new captains

Chennai has handed over the captaincy of this season to Jadeja. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians did not return Hardik but the Gujarat team gave him the lead. Hardik’s team has won four out of five matches. Gujarat’s only defeat was from Hyderabad but their 37-run victory over Rajasthan has once again strengthened their confidence. Jadeja’s team has faced many difficulties. Their match-winning bowler Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the entire tournament. Chennai won the match against Bangalore by 23 runs after losing the first four matches.

Chennai’s biggest problem bowling

Bowling has been Chennai’s main problem. Against Bangalore, the spin duo of Mahish Tekshana and Jadeja took seven wickets together, which is a positive thing. Chris Jordan and Dwayne Bravo have been average bowlers. Gujarat’s bowling lineup is strong. Lockie Ferguson, Mohammed Shami and Hardik have combined to take 19 wickets so far to control the run rate of the rival teams. Afghan spinner Rashid Khan has not performed as expected so far. Hardik and Shubman Gill have played some good innings for Gujarat with the bat but Matthew Wade’s form has become a matter of concern. Rahul Tewatia has done well in his role as a match finisher. For Chennai, openers Rituraj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali will have to play a key role in the team’s success by making big contributions with the bat.
