Suncheon (South Korea): Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated the home team of Tae Yang Shin and Wang Chan in the first round of the 2022 Korea Open Badminton Championships on Wednesday. They defeated third seeds Tai Yang Shin and Wang Chan 21-16 and 21-15 in a match that lasted 36 minutes at Palma Stadium.

The Indian pair was leading by just one point at the first interval. But after the restart, Satwiksairaj and Chirag broke in style to beat the first game 21-16. The second game was also similar to the first, but the result remained the same, when Korean players Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty managed to keep up in the opening exchange, but could not really see it to force a decider.

On Court 1, world No. 4 domestic player N Seong defeated India’s Srikrishna Priya Kudarvalli to enter the second round. The second seeded South Korean defeated the world number 119 Indian 21-5, 21-13 in just 27 minutes. A Seong will now face Yeo Jia Min of Singapore, who is ranked 16th in the world, in the second round.

Earlier, third seed PV Sindhu defeated Lauren Lam of America to enter the second round. The two-time Olympic medalist Indian defeated Lauren Lam 21-15 and 21-14 in a match that lasted 34 minutes. Former world No. 1 player Kidambi Srikanth defeated Malaysian shuttler Darren Lew 22-20 and 21-11 in a match that lasted 40 minutes.
