Fans are eagerly waiting for the Indian Premier League (IPL). Be it stadium, TV or mobile, there is a competition to watch the match everywhere. But so far in the 2022 season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suffered a major setback. This tweak has been given only by the fans.

Actually, in the current IPL season, 16 matches have been played till April 8. The tournament started on 26 March. Its first week saw a 33% drop in TV ratings. Whereas BCCI is soon going to sell the media rights for the 2023-27 season of IPL. In such a situation, it can be a big setback for BCCI.

TV ratings fall for the second consecutive year

BARC has provided data from March 26 to April 1. Meanwhile 8 matches were played in IPL 2022 season. According to the information, TV’s rating has been 2.52 in 8 matches. The TV rating in the first week of 2021 IPL was 3.75 as compared to its previous season. In such a situation, this time the TV rating has come down by 33 percent. Earlier, in the first week of the 2020 season, the TV rating was 3.85. This is the second consecutive drop in ratings.

Viewership also decreased

Not only the ratings but also the viewership has gone down. This time 14% less in the first week i.e. 229.06 million people watched the match (through all channels). Last year, IPL matches reached 267.7 million viewers.
