Three sheriff’s aides (county-level law enforcement officers) were injured and a suspected assailant was killed in a shooting in central Kansas, US, on April 16. This information was given by law enforcement officials. Cowley County Sheriff David Fallati said assistant officers were following the suspicious vehicle at US 77 north of Winfield, and when they stopped the vehicle, three of his assistants were shot.

Faletti said only one woman was found in the car at the scene, who was found dead. He said the injured paramedics were taken to Wichita Hospital, where their condition is stable. Officials did not provide further details.

Investigators are trying to figure out what happened before the shooting, the sheriff said. Winfield is located 58 kilometers southeast of Wichita, he said.
