Moscow : The United States is continuously building up its military biological capability in various regions of the world by taking advantage of the loopholes in international law.

Igor Kirillov, the head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces of the Russian Armed Forces, said Washington is building biological laboratories in different countries and connecting them into a single integrated system, Xinhua news agency reported.

In areas bordering Russia and China alone, about 60 facilities have been modernized with funding from the US military since 2005, he said at a meeting.

Kirillov noted that the US has spent more than $5 billion on military biological programs since 2005.

According to him, these biological facilities are working in three areas: monitoring of biological status in areas proposed for deployment of North Atlantic Treaty Organization troop; collecting and transporting strains of dangerous microorganisms to the United States; and to study potential agents of biological weapons.

He added that agents specific to a given area are also being studied, which have a natural focus and are capable of being transmitted to humans.
