Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) national vice president and Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz had already made it clear that if the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan is passed, Shehbaz Sharif will be the prime ministerial candidate from her party. After this, in September 2020, Shahbaz Sharif was arrested in a money laundering case as he was accused of misappropriating crores of rupees. In April 2021, he got bail from the Lahore High Court, but the case is still going on against him.

Shahbaz Sharif became the Chief Minister of Punjab province for the first time in February 1997, but in 1999, the army in Pakistan carried out a coup. After this, in June 2008, Shahbaz again became the Chief Minister of Punjab. In the 2013 elections, Shahbaz became the Chief Minister of Punjab for the third time. Together with the opposition, his eyes were fixed on the Prime Minister’s chair behind bringing a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan. Finally, after all the legal gimmicks, late night voting was held on the no-confidence motion. After the counting of votes, it was found that 174 votes were cast in favor of the no-confidence motion.

After winning the no-confidence motion, the way was cleared for Shahbaz Sharif to become the new Prime Minister. After winning the no-confidence motion, Shahbaz Sharif did not say that he would not send anyone to jails out of revenge. He has been the Chief Minister of Punjab for three times.
