Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Thursday said that over one lakh poor people in Uttar Pradesh will be given the keys of houses built for them under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana’ within 100 days.

He told PTI in an interview here that the state government would also form 50,000 new self-help groups under the State Rural Livelihood Mission to increase the income of women in rural areas.

 

Maurya said that within 100 days playgrounds would be constructed in 2600 gram panchayats and a total of 6,000 ponds would be renovated.

In order to speed up development in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently held a meeting with his cabinet members and brainstormed a 100-day action plan.

 

Maurya, who handled the Public Works Department as deputy chief minister in the first government under Adityanath’s leadership (2017-2022), has now been given the responsibility of rural development, rural engineering, food processing, entertainment tax, public enterprises. Maurya has emphasized on the revival of rivers and ponds along with giving priority to poverty alleviation under the 100-day action plan.

 

He said, we will hand over the keys of houses to one lakh poor people within 100 days by constructing new houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

“Under the State Rural Livelihood Mission, 50,000 new self-help groups will be formed, and the state government will give Rs 400 crore to 80,000 self-help groups,” he said.
State Rural Livelihood Mission was launched in 2012-2013 in Uttar Pradesh and its main objective is to provide employment opportunities in rural areas.

Under this scheme, 60 percent expenditure is done by the central government and the rest by the state government.

The BJP had promised in its election manifesto for the 2022 assembly elections that it would give houses to poor families.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched from 1 April 2016, and in the first government led by Yogi Adityanath, party leaders claimed that over 40 lakh poor people were provided housing facilities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the number of houses built prominently in their election rallies and also accused the previous Samajwadi Party government of being indifferent to providing houses to the poor.

Now Maurya has taken the initiative to strengthen the party’s agenda by setting a target of providing houses to one lakh poor people within just 100 days.

Maurya, the OBC face of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, had lost from Sirathu assembly constituency in Kaushambi district in the recent assembly elections. Despite this, the BJP leadership reposed faith in him and made him the Deputy Chief Minister.

Asked if he has got less important portfolios this time, Maurya said, “I am satisfied with this department. When the charge of Rural Development Department came to me, I felt that this was the work I really wanted to do.”

He indicated that he would have happily taken back this responsibility in 2017 as well.

About his plan to popularize the rural development department among the general public, Maurya said, “We will organize village chaupals to solve problems, conduct surprise inspections, and if any officer or employee is in any way unavailable for service. If negligence is found towards the public, then strictest action will be taken against them.”

Maurya said that he has also sent a proposal to the Central Government to increase the remuneration received under MNREGA.

At present, the wage rate is fixed at Rs 213 per day and 262 different types of work are allowed under MGNREGA.

Apart from this, manufacturing units will be set up in 600 development blocks to supply nutritious food to children.

Maurya said that under the third phase of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, 5,000 square kilometers of roads would be constructed in 100 days and the Ministry of Rural Development would set up 150 hi-tech nurseries, through which saplings could be made available. need for tree plantation.

He said that 15,000 women companions (supervisors) would be selected and trained under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Rajya Gramya Vikas Sansthan and 300 training camps would be organized for their training.
Maurya said that seventy per cent of the state’s population lives in villages and in five years the double engine government has done a lot for the people living in rural areas.
