Deoria : Ahead of the Legislative Council elections in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party candidate from Deoria Dr. Kafeel Khan has accused the police of unnecessary checking of his vehicle while going home from the meeting.

Khan alleged that when he was returning from a meeting on Wednesday, the police checked his vehicle “six times within a distance of six kilometres”. “But it had sweets for Navratri and dates for breaking the fast,” Khan said. He further said that he jokingly told the police that there was money in the car.

A video of the incident has also gone viral on social media. It is said that Khan himself shot videos of police searches and later circulated them. Khan, who is contesting the upcoming Legislative Council election opposite Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Dr. Ratanpal Singh, said the opposition was scared while reacting to the police investigation.

During the press conference in Kannauj, SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav said that Dr. Kafeel’s vehicle “has been checked many times, but BJP’s vehicle will not be checked.” Khan, who was then posted at Gorakhpur’s BRD Hospital, came into limelight in August 2017 after 63 infants died allegedly due to lack of medical oxygen at the hospital.

Khan, who alleged that the deaths occurred because the government had failed to pay the medical supplier, was arrested by the Yogi Adityanath government and charged with medical negligence, but was acquitted by the court. He was dismissed from service by the UP government in November last year.
