The situation in India's neighboring country Bangladesh is worsening. Amidst the ongoing violence in the country, President Mohammad Shahabuddin has dissolved the Parliament. Along with this, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has also been released. The protesting students in Bangladesh gave an ultimatum to dissolve the Parliament by 3 pm on Tuesday.
More than 100 people have been killed in violence that has spread across the country since Sheikh Hasina resigned as Bangladesh Prime Minister on Monday and left the country, several news reports have reported. India is monitoring the situation relating to minorities in Bangladesh and is in “close and constant” contact with the Indian community there through its diplomatic missions. In a statement in the Rajya Sabha, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also informed about former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's request to visit India “for a short period of time” at “extremely short notice”. He said that in view of this serious and still volatile situation in the neighbouring country, India has directed its border security forces to remain on high alert.
All political parties expressed concern
Jaishankar said, “Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman addressed the nation on August 5 and talked about accepting responsibility and forming an interim government. We maintain close and constant contact with the Indian community in Bangladesh through our diplomatic missions. I am here.” He said that India is also monitoring the situation regarding the condition of minorities. He said that India has had close relations with Bangladesh for decades, but the situation there has raised concerns here too. He said that the situation there started deteriorating from June and this process continues till now. He said that whatever happened in the neighboring country, one point on the agenda was that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should resign. He said that all political parties have expressed concern about violence and instability in Bangladesh.
