Assam: Hundreds of people, including members of various organizations like AASU, AKRASU, Garia Maria Deshi and others, protested at Agomoni railway station in Dhubri district on Sunday. The protesters demanded stopping of the New Jalpaiguri-Guwahati train at Agomoni railway station, which was stopped by the Railway Department without any reason. He also demanded construction of a road through the railway line for the convenience of the public in Agomoni area.
The protesters blocked the railway track and raised slogans against the railway department and accused it of neglecting the needs of the people of Agomoni. He said that they were requesting the Railway Department to resume stoppage of New Jalpaiguri-Guwahati train at Agomoni station, as it was a convenient option for many passengers. He also said that they were waiting for the construction of road at three places under the railway bridge for a long time, which was already approved by the Railway Department.
To stop the protest, officials of Dhubri district administration and police administration were present at the protest site along with high-ranking officials of the Railway Department. He tried to pacify the protesters and assured them that their demands would be considered. However, the protesters were not satisfied and said that they would continue their agitation until their demands were met.
The protesters said that they were forced to take this step as they were left with no other option. He appealed to the Railway Department to solve their problems as soon as possible and provide better facilities to the people of Agomon
