Praveen Khandelwal resigns from ONDC panel on moral grounds

New Delhi, 15 January (H.S.). Confederation of All India Traders (CAT) National General Secretary Praveen Khandelwal on Saturday resigned from the ONDC Advisory Council. Khandelwal has tendered his resignation citing moral grounds to avoid conflict of interest. It may be mentioned that ONDC is one of the most important committee of the Ministry of Commerce to empower the e-commerce platform.

Khandelwal, in his resignation letter to Union Minister Piyush Goyal, said that since the ONDC platform was launched on Friday, January 14. Now it will soon start operating as an e-commerce platform. Therefore, I am of the view that it would be against my ethics to continue as a member of the Advisory Council, which would give rise to a conflict of interest.

He has written in his resignation that CAIT is soon going to launch its own e-commerce portal “Bharat E-Market”, whose tagline is “Mere Liye-Mere Desh ke liye” and I am going to explore and establish the market for BEM. I am bound Khandelwal further said that while upholding the ethical values ​​and being a stakeholder, it would not be unethical and unreasonable for me to continue as a member of the ONDC Advisory Council like Nandan Nilekani of Infosys who is supporting Amazon and Adil Zainubhai is present, who is a board member of Reliance. It is worth mentioning that Khandelwal was associated with ONDC from the days of conception in 2020 during the first round of COVID in the commerce ministry.
