Barabanki, 19 August (HS). Barabanki Ramnagar police station has arrested three inter-district bike thieves and recovered four stolen motorcycles and an illegal pistol from their possession. The police has sent the arrested thieves to jail.
On Sunday late night when the police station in-charge was patrolling, during checking at Jafarpur turn, three people were seen coming on a motorcycle. When the police stopped them, they started running. Upon which the police chased them and caught them. During interrogation, they confessed to stealing the motorcycle. The caught thieves have given their names as Mo. Ahmed alias Bhure, Shaban and Rizwan, residents of village Mirpur of Ramnagar police station. A motorcycle, an illegal pistol of 315 bore and a live cartridge were recovered from Ahmed alias Bhure. On his information, four motorcycles were also recovered. These had fake number plates and the engine number was also changed.
Police station in-charge Ratnesh Kumar Pandey said that they have a gang which does recce in Barabanki and nearby districts and commits thefts in a cunning manner and changes the number plate and engine number of the stolen motorcycles and sells them to unknown people at cheap prices. They admitted to stealing motorcycles from different places. Sources say that more than two dozen motorcycles have been sold in Suratganj area.
