According to the information received, the possibility of PM Modi attending the SCO summit has been ruled out due to the Parliament session.

PM Modi will not participate in the SCO summit to be held in Kazakhstan. The Foreign Minister will represent. PM Modi has earlier regularly participated in the summit meetings of the Eurasian block. This time the Parliament session will run from 3-4 July. It is believed that PM Modi has decided not to participate in the summit.

Jinping-Shahbaz Sharif could have met

Earlier it was expected that there would be a possible bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the SCO summit. Apart from this, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif may also come face to face for the first time in the summit. According to media reports, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping may meet during the SCO summit. Given the state of relations between the two countries, India will probably have no objection to any talks between Xi and Sharif. However, India has previously said that it attaches great importance to the SCO for peace, stability and economic development in the region.

Opposition to China's BRI project

In 2018, Prime Minister Modi gave the full spectrum of SECURE – security, economy and trade, connectivity, unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity and respect for the environment. India has a unique position in the grouping despite being a member country of the SCO. India is the only member country that has not supported China's BRI project and has no bilateral relations with Pakistan. India has repeatedly used the SCO platform to remind member countries, especially Pakistan and China, that the primary objective of the grouping is to fight terrorism and connectivity initiatives must respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries. The SCO summit was hosted by India in virtual mode last year.
