At least 14 people were killed in floods and landslides triggered by a powerful typhoon that hit northern Philippines on Tuesday, disaster response officials said. According to the weather department, tropical storm 'Yagi' passed through Paoay town in Ilocos Norte province and hit the South China Sea with winds gusting up to 125 kilometers per hour and gusts of 75 kilometers per hour.
'Yagi' is expected to turn into a cyclonic storm
“Yagi” is expected to develop into a cyclonic storm as it moves northwestward from the sea towards South China. A storm warning has been issued for most provinces in the northern Philippines. Rain-hit mountainous villages in low-lying areas of Luzon, the country's most populous region, have been warned of the risk of landslides and floods.
