Mumbai – Dalit activist Anand Teltumbde has filed an application in the Bombay High Court seeking quashing of the case registered against him for his alleged involvement in the 2018 Bhima Koregaon violence. However, Ms Sarang Kotwal decided to abstain from hearing the appeal. Mrs. The Kotwal clarified that he has given the decision on the bail applications of several accused in the Bhima Koregaon case, hence in my opinion I should not hear this application.
In May 2024, a special NIA court rejected the plea for acquittal in the case. Teltumbde has challenged this order in the High Court. Mrs. Sarang Kotwal and NY. During the hearing before the Modak bench on Thursday, N.Y. The Kotwal decided to stay away from the hearing. Mrs. Kotwal was a member of the bench that had refused to quash the imprisonment of Teltumbde and 16 other accused.
Teltumbde’s name is also alleged to be included in the convenor of December Elgar Parishad, who gave an alleged inflammatory speech inciting violence on January 1, 2018. He is currently on bail in this case. A special court refused bail in July 2021, saying he was a member of a banned Maoist organisation, though the High Court granted bail in November 2022 and the Supreme Court also upheld it.
