Pakistan, which had threatened to boycott the biggest match of T20 World Cup 2026, has surrendered. The Pakistan government has officially instructed its team to take the field against India in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 15 February.

Why did Pakistan bow down? (The Backstory)

Actually, Pakistan had announced not to play the match against India in support of Bangladesh. Pakistan’s argument was that since Bangladesh was not allowed to play in India due to security reasons, they too would not play against India. However, due to ICC’s stern warning and fear of financial penalties, Pakistan had to change its decision.

Mohsin Naqvi’s ‘face-saving’ drama

PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi has tried to present this U-turn as a ‘moral victory’. He claimed that Pakistan has taken this decision keeping in mind the requests of friendly countries (Sri Lanka, UAE and Bangladesh) and the future of cricket. If sources are to be believed, ICC had rejected all the demands of Pakistan, in which the condition of putting pressure on starting bilateral series with India was kept.

Now it has become clear that on the coming Sunday i.e. on February 15, 2026, Team India led by Suryakumar Yadav and Pakistan team will face each other on the ground of Colombo. ICC has also confirmed this news and said that the schedule of the tournament will now remain the same as before and the fans will get full opportunity to enjoy this high-voltage match.
