India hosted the SCO summit last year in virtual mode and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended online. However, then Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited India in May 2023 to attend the 2-day meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers in Goa, the first Pakistani foreign minister to visit India in nearly 12 years.
Confirmed his participation in the meeting of Heads of Government
Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Baloch said that many countries have confirmed their participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of Government meeting. He said that it will be revealed in due course which country has confirmed it. Meanwhile, he said that Islamabad and New Delhi have had tense relations for a long time, mainly due to the Kashmir issue and cross-border terrorism from Pakistan.
What is the significance of SCO summit?
There will be several rounds of ministerial talks and meetings of senior officials before the SCO summit. It will focus on financial, economic, socio-cultural and humanitarian cooperation among member countries.
